Module 7 Discussion 1A

Q Change, as well as innovation, often involves taking a chance. Change can occur at every level of an organization. Change and innovation are often viewed as a general phenomenon rather than a procedurally driven application to a specific criminal justice agency. Change is a process, not an event. Change may be planned (purposive) or unplanned (crescive) driven by either internal or external forces. As we have progressed from the twentieth century into the twenty-first century, there have been many changes and innovations within criminal justice organizations. In Chapters 3 and 11, which discuss organizational environments and conflict, you learned that many issues and actors come into play regarding organizations and change. Chapter 14, specifically addresses Change and Innovation. • Films on Demand (Producer) (2008). Provide a PPT presentation outlining specific guidance and strategies on HOW the administration can: o Best minimize employee resistance to the planned changes, o Secure “employee buy in.” o Get employees to assist in the development of the organization’s shared vision for the changes. 2. You must use a PPT slide presentation preferably with audio or speaker notes for added comprehensiveness. 3. Critique at least two of your classmates’ specific guidance and strategies -- highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of their guidance and strategies. 4. In addition to the textbook, readings, and videos, you are encouraged to use any other relevant resources in developing your guidelines and strategies. Be creative and have fun with this discussion board exercise. All initial posts due on Thursday. Replies due by Sunday by 11:59PM. Read any postings already provided by your instructor or fellow students. Remember to read the feedback to your own major postings and reply to it throughout the module. Please reference and cite your readings and viewings in support of your responses. After your initial posting of least 150 words, read and respond to the conclusions drawn by at least two of your classmates, with substantial responses that further the discussions. Keep the following in mind when making your posts in the discussion area: 1. Did you complete all of the elements required in your initial discussion post? 2. Did you respond to the initial posts of at least two of your fellow students? 3. Did you acknowledge those who responded to you, including questions from your instructor? 4. Were all of your posts made on time? That is, was your initial postmade before Midnight Eastern Time on Thursday and were your follow-up posts made before Midnight Eastern Time on Sunday? See the Course Calendar for due dates for posts and responses. Consult the Discussion Posting Guide for information about writing your discussion posts. It is recommended that you write your post in a document first. Check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors. This is a “post first” discussion forum, which means you must submit your initial post before you can view other students’ posts. When you are ready to make your initial post, click on the "Reply". Then copy/paste the text into the message field, and click "Post Reply." To respond to a peer, click “Reply” beneath her or his post and continue as with an initial post. Please review this rubric, located on the Rubrics page within the Start Here module of the course, prior to beginning your work to ensure your participation meets the criteria in place for this discussion. All discussions combined are worth 30% of your final course grade.

Shawnelle M7D1A When employees are asked to change, resistance is a normal reaction. When things change, it can be uncomfortable and need new ways of thinking and acting. People have a hard time envisioning what their lives will be like after a major shift. Consequently, people prefer to hold on to what they know rather than embrace what they don't. Communication and Input Helps to Reduce Resistance In an ideal world, every employee would be able to participate in discussions about the company's plans for change, offer suggestions, and see their ideas put into action. To put it simply, this relies on the size of the change and the number of individuals affected by it.
